Anna Allen, author of "Diamond Del's Search for the Crown Jewels" shared her book to Mrs. McAvoy's first grade class at Daniel Island School at a reading on Jan. 25.

"Diamond Del's" is a fully illustrated children's hardback book written in verse that comes with an attached rock collection.

The storyline follows a virtuous hero as he travels the world to collect gem stones for a special crown.

Along the way, he must put his virtues to the test to overcome obstacles.

It is a great tool to use in the classroom because it not only teaches students about gems and minerals, but also about morals and virtues.

The students were mesmerized by the heroic tale and by the beautiful gem stones.

Afterward, they enjoyed a class discussion and were able to hold the colorful gems in their hands.

Schools may contact Anna Allen directly to schedule a book reading at anna.allen@hotmail.com or 225-333-1377.

You can visit www.diamonddelbook.com to see the cover and a list of the gems that are included in the rock collection that she will bring to your class.

Her book is currently available at Wonder Works, Black Market Minerals, online at www.BarnesandNoble.com and online at www.amazon.com.

Wonder Works hosted a book signing featuring Allen on Saturday, Jan. 28.

Allen holds a MA in English Literature from the College of Charleston and The Citadel.

She currently lives in Mount Pleasant with her husband and their two young daughters.
