The Cooper River Challenge Fishing Tournament took place at the Mount Pleasant Pier on Saturday, Sept. 3. Prizes were awarded in a variety of categories to participants ages 3 and up. Winners were:
Adult Angler Winner: Robert Engermenn from Goose Creek with a 2 lb.4 oz. black drum.
Youth Angler Winner: Brandon Gaddy from Mount Pleasant with a 1 lb. 2 oz. flounder.
Lady Angler Winner: Karen Tucker from John's Island with a 9 oz. whiting
Total weight of FiveFish Winner: Tony Day from Dayton, Ohio with a total weight of 6 lbs. 5 oz. including his 4 lb. 10 oz. black drum.
Special Mention: Michael Pack from Mount Pleasant also caught a nice 27-inch red drum, but it was not eligible for the tournament because it is bigger than the legal limit slot for this particular fish. Red drum can be kept if they are between 15 and 23 inches.
To be eligible to be entered into the Cooper River Challenge the fish must comply with SCDNR regulations.<0x00A0>
