Hampton Plantation State Historic Site and a local outfitter are joining forces to offer a canoe and kayak exploration and relaxing history lesson at the former rice plantation on Saturday, Sept. 25.

Participants will take an easy paddle near the rice canals hand dug by slaves more than 200 years ago, exploring what is now a natural habitat for a wide variety of plant and animal life. Lunch and a tour of the mansion will follow.

The cost is $35 for participants 13 and up, $25 for 12 and under. Lunch is not provided. Participants are advised to bring bug spray and a bagged lunch and should meet at 9:30 a.m. The paddling will last from 10 a.m. to noon, followed by a lunch and a tour of the historic plantation home at 2 p.m.
