Ashley Cook and Clay White, seniors at Wando High School, will join other musicians from across the nation March 4-6 as part of Music for All's 2010 Honor Band of America.

Cook and White were selected from hundreds of applicants from across the country for membership in this prestigious honors ensemble.

Clay is the son of Eddie and Laurie White. Ashley is the daughter of Creighton and Kathy Cook.

Their band director is Scott Rush. The Honor Band of America will perform in concert at 8 p.m., Saturday, March 6, at Clowes Memorial Hall located on the campus of Butler University in Indianapolis, Indiana.

The Honor Band of America is a national ensemble that will be conducted in 2010 by H. Robert Reynolds, principal conductor of the University of Southern California Thornton Wind Ensemble and retired long-time Director of Bands at University of Michigan.

The Honor Band of America will perform Weiner Philharmoniker Fanfare by Richard Strauss, Short Ride in a Fast Machine by John Adams/Odom, The Logic of All My Dreams from "Alchemy in Silent Spaces" by Steven Bryant, Slalom by Carter Pann, O Magnum Mysterium by Morten Lauridsen/Reynolds, and Suite from 'Mass' by Leonard Bernstein.

Clay and Ashley play the trumpet and oboe, respectively, in Wando's Symphonic Band. They are also both section leaders in Wando's nationally-ranked marching band. The Wando Marching Band has won the AAAAA division of the state marching competition for the past five years.

Clay was selected to be one of the lead trumpet players in the All-state Jazz Band last year. Ashley is the principal oboist of the Youth Orchestra of the Lowcountry.
