Stubbs, Muldrow and Herrin Architects and E.M. Seabrook, Jr. Engineers from Mount Pleasant have provided invaluable assistance to the Rural Mission, Inc. as they have teamed to provide a new home for a low income family in rural Charleston County.   
Stubbs, Muldrow and Herrin Architects have provided several home designs and modifications to the Rural Mission for small homes to be given to low income families and elderly residents whose homes are too dilapidated to repair or lost through fire.    
These one and two bedroom homes, usually around 800 square feet are designed to be low maintenance, emergency efficient, functional as well as appealing. Volunteers from this firm have also given of their time to help construct the homes.
E. M. Seabrook, Jr., Engineers also has a long history with the Rural Mission.   Mickey Seabrook of Mount Pleasant is a member of the Mission’s board of directors.  They have provided assistance in surveying property and recording plats to allow building permits to be filed and issued with Charleston County.  This latest home required the subdivision of a property where an elderly neighbor gave the family the property in appreciation for their years of friendship.
The home being built as a gift of love and grace is for Shirley Smiley and her family on Dixie Plantation Road near the Town of Hollywood. This two bedroom home will replace the very old trailer home that has housed this family of five for years. Most of the family has lingering and chronic health concerns caused in large part by the poor condition, moisture and leaks in this old trailer.   The Smiley family has been there every day that volunteers have worked on this home, bringing cold drinks, Gatorade and snacks to show their appreciation.   Many lasting friendships have been formed.
