Jesse Carson DeBruhl of Mt. Pleasant passed away at his home on April 16, 2010. Mr. DeBruhl was born on July 27, 1931 in Union, SC to the late Jesse and Dora DeBruhl.
Mr. DeBruhl graduated with both a bachelors and masters degree from Clemson University. While attending Clemson University, he was a member of the baseball team and remained a Clemson sports fan throughout his life. Mr. DeBruhl served in the United States Army as an MP during the Korean War. After his discharge he worked for the Federal Intermediate Credit Bank and the Federal Land Bank in both Columbia, SC and New Orleans until his retirement. He moved to Mt. Pleasant in 2002. Mr. DeBruhl was an avid gardener who especially enjoyed creating hybrid strains of day lilies.
Mr. DeBruhl is survived by his four children, Julia Yungman of Mt. Pleasant, Steven DeBruhl of New Orleans, David DeBruhl of Mt. Pleasant and Joel DeBruhl of Lake Oswego, Oregon. In addition, Mr. DeBruhl had twelve grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his brother Reece and has two surviving brothers Ray and Alonzo. Visitation was on Thursday, April 22, 2010 at 1:00 PM, at McAlister-Smith Funeral Home, Mt. Pleasant Chapel, 1520 Rifle Range Road, Mt. Pleasant, SC 29464. Graveside service was held at 2:00 PM at Mt. Pleasant Memorial Gardens, 1308 Mathis Ferry Road, Mt. Pleasant, SC 29464. On line condolences may be posted via www. mcalister-smith.com.
