An officer was approaching the entrance to a local neighborhood when a car came driving straight at him at a very high rate of speed. In fact, the car was traveling in the center of Rifle Range Road. This caused the officer to have to drive off onto the shoulder with the car driving down the road jerked to the right. Since this was the only car on the road at the time the officer had no problem following it —which is good since the driver had no intention of stopping. He drove as fast as he could to his house, threw the car into park and ran into his house. The officer hollered for the man to stop but he ran inside and locked the door. When the officer went to the door and knocked a woman came to the door. He told her to go get the subject that ran inside. She walked away and came back about 30 seconds later and told the officer that the man of the house said, “if they ain’t got a warrant, I ain’t coming.” The officer told her to tell him he was going to tow the vehicle if he did not come to the door. She relayed the message, to which he replied -tell the cops they are not towing an f’ing thing because they were on private property. After going back and forth the man finally stepped outside. He said he was not driving and his car had been parked in the yard all day. The officer said he knew this was not true because he followed him and the hood was still warm from being driven. The man was in a rage, pacing back and forth saying he was going to call the county. He kept screaming about having a warrant and officers being on private property. The more he carried on the more obvious it was this guy was hammered drunk. It turns out this man they were talking to was not even the driver after all. The driver was inside hiding and this man was covering for him. They finally convinced the driver to come out but the officer was not 100 percent sure it was the man he watched run inside. They ran a check on the man however, and ironically enough, they were pretty sure they got their guy. He had warrants out for his arrest by Mount Pleasant for Failure to Stop for Blue Lights, Reckless Driving, and Driving Under Suspension. Because of that and the chain of events from that night, the officer had the car towed and, the man was arrested.
