It’s been a couple of weeks since you’ve seen my column. It’s not that I didn’t write it. I would attribute the problem to a caveman trying to operate modern technology.
Maybe I should try sending it in by inscribing it upon my cave wall.
Some future archaeologist could find it and use it as proof that, although intelligent, the people alive in 2009 were goofy. I could use smoke signals but the last time I tried that, the only response I got was from the Mount Pleasant Fire Department. The Moultrie News office (two blocks away from my house) is reachable by “carrier daschund”, but little Ozzie only has four inch legs so it might take some time.
So I’ll try to send it as I usually do.
If you are reading this, you can assume that I have moved up the evolutionary scale a little.
This Friday night at the Windjammer on the Isle of Palms, Virginia’s Sons Of Bill will be playing their unique blend of country and rock. They describe themselves too edgy for Nashville, but too earnest for New York. Drawing comparisons to artists ranging from George Jones to the Gin Blossoms – Gram Parsons to Guns and Roses – Sons of Bill have been called “equal parts raucous and reflective.”
A sound which is revolutionary only in its simplicity. They are touring in support of their latest release “One Town Away.”
Produced by Jim Scott ( who has also worked with Tom Petty, Wilco and Whiskey Town) this latest release contains 12 songs about the struggles, hopes and triumphs of the human condition.

Also on the bill is Mac Leaphart, you can check his county/folk music out at www.myspace.com/macleaphart
On Saturday night, Art’s Bar and Grill presents The Fire Apes. The feel of the music is most commonly considered to be reminiscent of such bands as The Beatles, Green Day, Oasis, The Kinks, and The Pretenders. The Fire Apes understand what the British pop invasion was about and yet transcend the past and merge it with the future. Following their debut CD, “ A Perfect Day for Bananafish”, and their critically acclaimed sophomore effort, “Central Park Carousel”, The Fire Apes have been recording with producer Sean O’Keefe and touring in support of their self-titled EP. The melody driven songs that have been the hallmark of The Fire Apes have become a bit more edgy and contemporary. Find out more at www.thefireapes.com.
Something new going on with me, Kung Fu and I are hosting an open mic night every Wednesday night at A Dough Re Mi. It is for acoustic acts only, so no full bands or guitar amps please. We tried the first one last week and while there were only a few people there we had a good time. We wound up playing all night.
We are hoping to see more folks come out and play as even though we love to play, we both also enjoy checking out other folks playing their tunes.
Come on out and join the fun.
For all you venue owners and booking guys out there, here’s some helpful info about this column. My deadline is Monday at noon so please try to get any info you want me to know by Saturday at midnight. I always look at the e-mails I get from you nice folks before I decide what to write about. I am a firm believer in the old maxim that “the squeaky wheel gets the grease.” So if you send me your info, there is a better chance that I will write about your upcoming music events. I pick and choose according to what I like, but I like almost every kind of music there is so let me know what you have going on.
Well, that’s it for this week. Until next week, support live entertainment and be nice to each other.
