Vickey Boyd - vboyd@moultrienews.com
Vickey Boyd is a country girl raised on butterbeans, sunshine and tomatoes. She grew up playing in the woods and fields with three brothers.A good day on the farm was when she came home to dinner covered in dust and dirt. A bad day was spent in the steamy tobacco fields. Hey, anybody got a plate of butterbeans, fried chicken, with sliced tomatoes and cucumbers? She'll be right over. And right after dinner she can be found around town telling everyone to "read all about it" in East Cooper's very own weekly paper!

Sully Witte - editor@moultrienews.com
Sully Witte is a Lowcountry girl who believes that salt water cures everything - sweat, tears and the sea. When not working, she can be found on the boat or the dock teaching her eight year old daughter Reeves about the wonders of our coastal paradise. When not playing in the pluff mud she's bee bopping around town, interviewing our illustrious mayor and council members about various town projects. If you see her with a stack of papers as tall as her torso, she's on her way to the office to sift through the ever growing number of weekly police reports which almost always crack a smile on the face of Moultrie News Police Blotter fans. Very rarely will you ever catch her without her phone stuck to her ear and a pair of stillettos on her feet. Ms. Sully Witte has mastered the art of balance - fashionably, personally and professionally.

Helen R. Hammond - helen@moultrienews.com
Born in the Lowcountry, Helen loves anything on the water- whether boating or wakeboarding. And put a tennis racket in her hand and she has a mean forehand. This pet lover is content to chill with friends and family. Local seafood is her fave!

Chris McCandlish - news@moultrienews.com
Chris McCandlish is from Chapin, South Carolina, right outside Columbia, and he has a B.A. from the University of South Carolina in Spanish. Chris moved to the Lowcountry in June and worked on Wayne Magwood's shrimp boat for a month, which had nothing whatsoever to do with Spanish. He is now a copy editor and reporter for Moultrie News, which also has nothing whatsoever to do with Spanish. He had never heard the term "pluff mud" until he moved to the Lowcountry, but now he knows why Sully always smells so badly in the office. (See Sully Witte's bio)

History

At the Moultrie News, we take pride in our staff of trained and dedicated professionals. We work tirelessly to provide the East Cooper area with quality informative reporting on local events with knowledge, perspective and compassion. We hope you find these qualities each time you read a copy of the Moultrie News.

The Moultrie News was started in 1964 as a tabloid shopper by Carl Meynardie, who was the publisher of the Hanahan News. He ran the little paper for 8 years. In 1972 the Moultrie News was bought by Charles Diggle and J.C. Long. At the time Mr. Diggle was publisher of several small papers. Mr. Long was the wealthy and powerful landowner who created Wild Dunes and founded the Beach Company, which continues to develop East Cooper property today.

When Mr. Long died in 1987, Charles Diggle bought the Beach Company’s Interest in the Moultrie News, and the Diggle family ran the paper for 11 years before selling it to the Evening Post Community Publications Group, which is under the vast corporate umbrella of The Post and Courier.

The company owns several Lowcountry papers, including the Berkeley Independent, the Goose Creek Gazette, the James Island Journal and the Summerville Journal Scene. After the Evening Post Community Publications Group bought the Moultrie News, Charles Diggle and his son Chuck continued to run the paper until 2002 when Vickey Boyd, who is from Kingstree, S.C., was named publisher.

What do people really think of having paid parking on Sullivan’s Island?
All for it, as long as residents get a sticker to put on their car to be exempt from it.

Why is this fair- I have been coming to the beach for years and I support your commercial district.

Sure, considering that the neighboring beaches, Folly and Isle of Palms, have paid parking. Sullivan’s can certainly use the revenue for the many projects they need completed, mainly installing the stormwater drainage.

What do you think of Sullivan's Island's new noise ordinance, restricting noise from 11:00 PM to 7:00 AM?
Ridiculous -- what next, we will get fined to just walk in the commercial district?

All for it -- people cannot keep their windows open at night anymore because of the noise.

I am just going to go elsewhere to make some noise!
