The Mount Pleasant Rotary Club was recently designated as “Club of the Year” for medium size Rotary clubs at the annual Rotary District Conference held at Myrtle Beach on March 22-24.
Bob Barton, club president, accepted the “Club of the Year” banner at the awards dinner. The club also received awards for the best website and the best bulletin for medium size clubs. In addition, the club received the Rotary International Presidential Citation and the Cub Leadership Citation.
The district conference is held annually for all 79 Rotary clubs of the district to get together for fellowship, inspiration and celebration of the district’s many service projects and programs. The district conference will meet in Charleston next March.
The Mount Pleasant Rotary club has as its signature activity a back pack buddies program that provides food over the weekend during the school year for needy students at James B. Edwards, Jennie Moore and St. James Santee elementary schools. The club is involved in a variety of service projects including “Happy Feet,” Wando Warrior program at Wando High School, Adopt-a-Highway, Habitat for Humanity, Water Missions International, college scholarships and ambassadorial scholarships. The club meets at the Holiday Inn on Wednesdays at 12:30 p.m.
