Wando alumna Cameron Handel joined in with the jazz band for a solo on “Moanin.’”

The Wando Percussion/Jazz concert was held this weekend. There will be additional Wando Band concerts this week. The chamber concert will be held on Thursday, May 2 at 6 p.m, and the spring concert is scheduled for Thursday, May 9 at 7 p.m. - Both concerts will be held in the Wando High School Performing Arts Center.

This year’s percussion/jazz concert was a blast. Highlights include special guest, Nat McIntosh (of Youngblood Brass Band, Sotto Voce Tuba Quartet and Dallas Brass fame), who was featured on Beat-Boxing Sousaphone, and a special premiere of Brad Ralston’s transcription of Rachmaninoff Piano Concerto #2, Movement 3, featuring Wando’s very own Andrew Kilby. Combine this with some Latin-themed music, duets, new works for percussion, and the band may even throw in a Grammy winner.
