Calling it an opportunity for the school to grow, St. John’s Christian Academy broke ground on a new welcome center last week that will stand as the Main Street Moncks Corner school’s shining centerpiece.
“We are very excited about this project,” said SJCA headmaster Eric Denton. “We’ve been waiting a long time to get this started.
“This new welcome center will help improve our curb appeal and have a place to welcome students and parents to St. John’s Christian Academy.”
The expansion project should take around three months to complete, according to SJCA board member Sean Kelly. The structure will house a reception area, Denton’s offices, a multi-purpose room and restrooms.
“I can’t be more proud to be a part of this,” Kelly said.
Construction was originally set to begin after school dismissed for the summer in early June but the weather has delayed the start until now.
“Clearly this is going to present some interesting logistical challenges for parking and student drop-off once school begins in August,” Denton said. “We will have signs posted directing parents where to take their kids, and students onsite directing traffic.”
SJCA begins its 2013-2014 school year on Aug. 17.
