Between the stacks: two more weeks to read

  • Wednesday, August 8, 2012

Last week, when I was handing out water/Gatorade to the Wando High School band members during their annual summer camp, all of a sudden I realized that summer vacation is almost over. When the summer break started I thought, like every year, three months is way too long (I still think that by the way). But here we are and it is back to school again. I am convinced that quite a few kids also thought that the summer would never end and that they had time enough to finish their required summer reading. Luckily for them they still have two more weeks. If you or your child is unable to locate the summer reading list from your school, come to the library. The Reference Department has the reading lists for middle and high schools in the East Cooper area school zones, and the Children's Department can provide you with the ones for the elementary schools in the area. As summer nears its end, our summer reading program is also coming to an end. It was, as always, a great success. Many people young and not so young participated in this event. The young ones dreamed big, the teenagers owned the night, and the not so young ones rode the wave. The last day of the summer reading program is August 10th. There is still time to submit the rest of your reading entries. The final prizes are still within your reach. The Mount Pleasant Regional Library offers the following programs during the next two weeks.
Teens Teen Summer Movie-splosion: Puss in Boots (grades 6 -12) Wednesday, August 8 at 2:30 p.m. Puss in Boots must prove his innocence through a series of adventures (set before he meets Shrek and Donkey).
