I have not been drinking
The manager of a local retail store called police because he suspected one of his customers might have been drinking. The man was about to drive off when the manager went outside to try and prevent him from doing so, according to a report. when police arrived they spoke with the man who was about to drive off.
He said he was fine and had not been drinking. According to the report he said he suffered from narcolepsy. The report said the officer did not smell an odor of alcohol coming from the man but did observe him to have extremely glossy eyes.
When asked for his driver's license the man told the officer he did not have it and didn't know where it was.
He shuffled through some paperwork in his car but still could not find it, the report said.
The officer was able to run the man's name and birthday through the computer and found that his license was in fact suspended for three unpaid traffic tickets.
The report indicates that the man told the officer he did not drive to the store. He said that his friend from AA and his girlfriend had driven the car and dropped him off. He said they left the car in the parking lot to go run errands.
He was unable to make contact with his friends, nor was he able to tell the officer how his friends left without the car, according to the report.
The officer performed field sobriety tests on the man, and according to the report, he was unable to stand without leaning, he was shaking excessively and he had a very high heart rate, which was visible in his neck muscles.
The report said the man was unable to focus enough to call a friend and unable to provide the contact information for his friends that dropped him off.
He was arrested for driving under suspension. At that time he was placed in the patrol car and his car was inventoried.
Police found his license in the center console of his vehicle where he was been previously searching.
Once at the jail the suspect was unsteady and the nurse at the jail advised that he might have taken an unknown drug, according to the report. At that time he had to be taken to the hospital for jail clearance.
Eventually he returned back to the jail to face his charges.
