The Memminger Auditorium in Charleston, rocked on Saturday night as Robert E. “Teddy” Turner IV and his wife Blair presided over the 2013 Krewe of Charleston Mardi Gras Ball. They were joined by more than 50 costumed participants in full Mardi Gras attire.
Donnie Buillard, founding director, event manager and captain of the Krewe of Charleston led the Turners and their court on a promenade through revelers.
A jazz band and costumed members of the Krewe of Charleston’s 2013 Bal Masque MMXIII tossed beads and souvenirs to the guests in attendance at Memminger Auditorium.
Medal of Honor recipient Maj. Gen. James E. Livingston, USMC (Ret) served as grand marshall, and Charleston City Councilman/Mayor Pro Tempore Dean Riegel entertained and announced the cast of royalty.
Actor Tom Berenger, past monarch, was also on hand to entertain the crowd of about 400.
The Krewe of Charleston’s annual Bal Masque festivities are hosted both to raise money for local charities and to showcase the formal spectacle involved with the celebration of Mardi Gras.
The ball featured catered authentic gumbo and shrimp Creoles and other Cajun delicacies. Music and entertainment was provided by Atlanta Party Band.
