Sundrops Montessori schools announces the opening of its third campus near the entrance to the Dunes West community in Mount Pleasant. Located at 3015 Dunes West Blvd., Suite 702 in the Commons at Dunes West, the school serves children ages 18 months to 6 years in a nurturing home-like educational environment. The school also features small class sizes, individualized instruction and a highly trained staff.
Sundrops Montessori was started in 1998 by Shannon Smith on the Isle of Palms. Today the school has a location in Charleston and two locations in Mount Pleasant and serves more than 150 children from infant to sixth grade. The schools specialize in following the child using the Montessori method of instruction.
Dr. Maria Montessori developed the Montessori method of instruction in the early 1900ís. The curriculum is implemented on six continents and has proven effective across cultural boundaries and socioeconomic levels. The goal of a Montessori classroom is to provide a nurturing environment that challenges children academically and stimulates creative, independent learning with respect for the child, the community and the environment.
The preschool will hold an open house on Saturday, Jan. 26 from 9:30 to 11:30. This is a drop-in event and is child friendly.
