Five local sailors qualified to participate in The Leukemia & Lymphoma Societys (LLS) annual Fantasy Sail Weekend with Gary Jobson. Nancy Hagood (National Top Individual Fundraiser 2011), Bill McKenzie, Ben Hagood, Katy Perrin and Dan Perrin were recognized at the Southern Yacht Club in New Orleans along with nearly 100 other top fundraisers from the 50 Leukemia Cup Regattas that took place around the country in 2012.

Team Mongo, represented by sailor and Multiple Myeloma survivor, Ben Hagood along with wife, Penn, accepted the National Top Fundraising Boat Award for generating a record $65,000 this year.

The Leukemia Cup Regatta is a series of sailing events that combines the joy of boating with the important task of raising money to fight leukemia, lymphoma and other blood cancers. Jobson has been the national chairman of The Leukemia Cup Regatta since 1994.

He is a world class sailor, television commentator, and author. He was diagnosed with lymphoma in 2003. During the Fantasy Sail weekend, Jobson related his experience with cancer and the research advances funded by LLS. He also shared his insights into the latest news on the sailing scene.

Collectively, participants in the 2012 Leukemia Cup Regattas raised a total of $4.4 million this year; $42 million since its inception.

To date, the Charleston sailing community has generated over $1.7 million of that amount.
