Newcomers luncheon
What: The women of the East Cooper Newcomers Club monthly lunch

String Extravaganza concert
What: The Music Matters! Concert Series will present its free concert “StringExtravaganza”
When: Thursday, Jan. 17, 7 p.m.
Where: Franke at Seaside, Rodenberg Chapel, 1885 Rifle Range Road, Mount Pleasant
Details: This free concert is open to the public, and will highlight the violin playing of local music prodigy, Nicholas Bentz. He will play selections from Bach’s Partita #2, Paganini’s 24 Caprices, and Shostakovich’s Violin Concerto #1. This recital is part of the music advocacy project run by Abigail Kent to raise community awareness to support live music and the local programs that make this possible.

What: The Isle of Palms Garden Club meeting

Myasthenia Gravis Support Group
WHAT: “Effects of Myasthenia Gravis on Swallowing, Speech and Voice” presented by Ashli O’Rourke, M.D., M.Sc, Otolaryngologist and Kendrea L. Focht, C.Sc.D. Speech-Language Pathologist at the Evelyn Trammell Institute for Voice and Swallowing, Medical University of South Carolina.

Oyster roast
What: Knights of Columbus annual Oyster Roast

What: “This Little Light of Mine, I’m Gonna Let It Shine,” Martin Luther King, Jr. Tribute Performance with the CSO Gospel Choir/CSO Spiritual Ensemble

Where: Royal Missionary Baptist Church, 4761 Luella Ave., North Charleston.
Details: This performance is free and open to the public. An entry ticket is required; freewill donations accepted.
Shepherd’s Center
What: The Shepherd’s Center of East Cooper weekly meeting

What: East Cooper Republican Club 2013 kickoff lunch

Where: Mount Pleasant Holiday Inn
Details: The guest speaker will be South Carolina Speaker of the House Bobby Harrell. Speaker Harrell will discuss the upcoming S.C. House GOP agenda and will take questions from the audience. Meeting concludes at 1 p.m. membership dues are $15. Member price for lunch is $15. Non-member price for lunch is $20.

WHAT: Isle of Palms Exchange Club Oyster Roast
