Bruce McMillan was born in Dalton, Ga., but moved to Charleston more than 30 years ago when his family was involved in the fast-food business here. After 15 years of restaurant management experience, McMillan turned to renovating homes in downtown Charleston. He owned and operated McMillan Painting and Construction for 12 years before deciding to join the Coleman Boulevard team of Carolina One Real Estate.

McMillan has three grown children, lives in Mount Pleasant and still enjoys home renovation projects.

According to Dave Sansom, BIC of the Coleman Boulevard office, “Bruce’s extensive knowledge of the Charleston area and his background in the home renovation business will give his clients a special and valuable service experience.”

Miller-Valentine

Miller-Valentine Group is pleased to announce that Crystl Zimmer has joined their Columbia office as a project assistant.

A visual communication graduate of American InterContinental University, Crystl brings with her nearly 10 years of administrative and marketing experience.

“We are pleased to have Crystl join our growing team,” said Steve Koewler, president of Miller-Valentine Group. “Crystl will lead our local marketing efforts and provide support to both our development and construction teams.”

Wake Forest

Rob Daniel, golf course superintendent at RiverTowne Country Club, was one of only 25 superintendents across the country chosen to recently attend an executive professional development seminar, the Syngenta Business Institute at Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, N.C.

During an intensive three-day seminar, participants gained knowledge in financial and human resources management, delegation and negotiation skills, effective communications techniques, managing generational differences and more. The unique program provided ideas and tools to assist superintendents in their careers and offer valuable benefits to the courses they manage.

“Our intention was to create a program through a leading business school that supplemented and complemented their existing knowledge base,” said Stephanie Schwenke, golf market manager, Syngenta. “A professional educational program like this is incomparable within the industry.”

Fisher elected

Bobette Fisher, CRS, has been elected 2013 president of the South Carolina Chapter of the Council of Residential Specialists, a not-for-profit affiliate of the National Association of Realtors. As chapter president, Fisher manages the chapter’s activities and acts as a liaison between the regional vice president, the council’s leadership team and the staff.

Fisher has been involved in real estate since 2002. Currently, she is a realtor with Carolina One Real Estate and serves as a relocation specialist throughout the Charleston Metro area. The South Carolina chapter is one of 57 chapters that provide educational opportunities for realtors, promote the council and the Certified Residential Specialist (CRS) Designation, assist the council in achieving its purposes and objectives, plan community service projects and provide a forum for the exchange of information.

Fisher says her goal is to improve the professional standard in the real estate industry and to increase consumer awareness of the differentiation of a certified residential specialist vs. a non-member. Consumers benefit from using a realtor who has their CRS designation because of the education requirement plus the additional transactions they have experienced. The chapter will be involved in sponsoring four to six courses throughout the state for realtors to take during 2013.

The Council of Residential Specialists is a not-for-profit affiliate of the National Association of Realtors comprised of more than 35,000 members. It awards the CRS Designation to experienced realtors who have completed advanced professional training and demonstrated outstanding professional achievement in residential real estate.

“Out of 3,600 realtors in the Charleston Trident Association of Realtors there are 70 members with this prestigious achievement,” according to Fisher.

Lee & Associates

Jonathan J. Chalfie has joined Lee & Associates Charleston as an associate specializing in office space. Chalfie has more than 12 years’ experience working in the Charleston commercial real estate market formerly with Avison Young.
