The American Red Cross South Carolina Blood Services Region announced new hours of operation for its donation center at the Medical University of South Carolina, located at 171 Ashley Ave. in downtown Charleston.
The new schedule is: Monday 11 a.m. - 7 p.m. and Friday 6 a.m. - 2 p.m.
It is designed to better match donors’ preferred times and help accommodate those MUSC employees who may be working alternative shifts. The blood donor room is located in room 279 of the main hospital and can be reached at 792-1015.
For more information on blood donation and sponsorship opportunities, please contact American Red Cross donor recruitment representative Barbie Kolar at firstname.lastname@example.org or 323-7457.
Blood can be safely donated every 56 days, and platelets can be donated every seven days or up to 24 times a year. Most healthy people age 17 and older or 16 with parental consent, who weigh at least 110 pounds are eligible to donate blood and platelets.
Donors who are 18 and younger must also meet specific height and weight requirements.
