Christ Our King student prefers school donations over birthday gifts

Maren Santi, a Christ Our King-Stella Maris third-grade student, celebrated her 9th birthday party. Santi decided to ask her friends to donate to her school's safety program instead of getting birthday presents. While she was planning her party, the school sent students home with letters describing a safety program that was being implemented, due to the Sandy Hook tragedy. Her friends' donations totaled $175.
