The Eagles narrowly defeated Holly Hill, 39-38, and entered the fourth quarter trailing by one point.

Corey Caulder, Lizzie Wilson and Annie Pascutti combined for 32 of the team's total points.

“Last year we would have lost this type of game, so hopefully it's a precursor to a solid game tonight in the region tournament finals,” assistant coach Dewey Caulder said Tuesday morning, “and a long run in the playoffs that start Friday night. A win is a win and we are thankful for that.”

The Wando rugby club team opened its season in Columbia, this past Friday night, beating Sandhills 23-10.

“At the end of the day, there were no injuries, the entire roster got at least 20 minutes of action, and we won,” coach Todd Shepard said. “The coaching staff could not have been happier.”

Shepard added that Wando was forced to use several players with little to no previous experience with the club and only 21 players made the trip, due to injuries and illnesses.

Wando led 11-5 at halftime and held off any Sandhills attempt to rally after intermission.
