Save the date for 2013 Women in Business Conference

The Charleston Metro Chamber of Commerce and Center for Women are pleased to announce Carla Harris as the keynote speaker at the eighth annual Women in Business Conference. This premiere conference for women begins at 8:30 a.m. Friday, March 1 at the Omar Shrine Auditorium in Mount Pleasant, and will provide participants with direct access to other successful business leaders in the region.

Join the chamber and the Center for Women for an engaging conversation with Carla Harris, managing director and senior client advisor at Morgan Stanley, author of “Expect to Win.” Harris is one of the most powerful and respected women in business who shares advice, tips and strategies for surviving and thriving in any workplace environment. “Carla’s Pearls” have become the centerpiece for her many speeches and television appearances.

This one-day event is for visionary women who want to discover the tools for success and make strategic business connections. As current and future business leaders, conference participants will be encouraged to celebrate creativity, embrace risk and take actions that will positively impact their workplace and community. Designed to inspire women in business to achieve excellence by becoming leaders and innovators, attendees will leave feeling empowered and inspired to take action. Participation in the conference will enable you to interact in a variety of ways through the following sessions:

• Rise to Power: Utilize insights from four diverse women on how to be flexible, take advantage of opportunities and end up doing what you love. Terry Haas, realtor, HGTV’s “Designed to Sell;” Jenny Horne, S.C. House of Representatives District 94; Deona Smith, president, The DeJo Group; and Laura Varn, vice president, corporate communications, Santee Cooper on how to be flexible, take advantage of opportunities and end up doing what you love.

• Securing our Future: A Vision for 2020: Vision 2020 is a national initiative advancing women’s economic and social equality through collaborations with affiliated organizations and members in 50 states. Vision 2020 National Allies represent more than 20 million women/girls who share a commitment to increasing women in leadership positions and achieving full equality for women and girls.

• The Mean Women phenomenon happening in business today: Fostering a spirit of support instead of competition Mean Girls is not just a movie - it’s an unfortunate phenomenon happening in business and government among women. Hear from the first female Citadel graduate Nancy Mace, president, The Mace Group, co-founder of Citizen Hil and the other half of FITSNews.com, about her experiences.

• Social Media and Your Personal Brand: A strong social media presence continues to have a heightened importance in regard to building your professional network and creating your personal online brand. In an interactive session, learn how to grow your network and build your influence by harnessing the power of social media (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, etc).Learn new tips from Ashley Caldwell, owner and CEO, The Modern Connection.
