Perkis running unopposed for mayor in upcoming Sullivan’s Island election

  • Monday, February 25, 2013

Six Sullivan’s Island residents submitted petitions for candidacy in the May 7 municipal election.

There are three open town council seats and another vacancy for mayor. Mike Perkis, current mayor pro tem, was the only person to file for mayor, according to the Town of Sullivan’s Island e-newsletter.

Sarah Church, Chauncey Clark, Billy Matthews, Susan Middaugh and Pat O’Neil submitted petitions for the council positions. O’Neil is the only incumbent.

Residents had until Feb. 20 to submit their candidacy.

The petitions will now be sent to the Charleston County Board of Elections & Voter Registration (BEVR), which has 15 days to approve. Then, the town will announce the official list of candidates.
