Colleton Museum's April 2013 Featured Artist Show: Chris Kirk

The Colleton Museum's April “Featured Artist” show will exhibit the Lowcountry photography of Chris Kirk. Chris' photographic works include landscapes, nature, coastal, and wildlife scenes. This exhibit will open on Tuesday, April 2nd with a cocktail reception at the Colleton Museum from 5pm-7pm. The public is invited to attend this free event. The exhibit will run through Saturday, April 27th, 2013.

Chris Kirk is a newly retired CPA living on St. Helena Island in the Sea Islands of Beaufort County, South Carolina. As an outlet for his creative side, Chris' utilizes the other side of his brain by incorporating his enthusiastic hobby of photography, his avid passion for the Lowcountry, and the abundant beauty of the local ecology to produce Lowcountry landscape, nature, coastal, and wildlife photos. His photographs are presented in both canvas and high-quality photo paper formats with a total of over 75 pieces displayed in this show and available for sale. Chris' ecology-oriented photography has been featured in many local, regional, and statewide publications over the past 7 years. Chris has also been invited to display his work in a number of curated and juried art shows in Beaufort County. In 2011 Chris received the distinction of winning the “Photography-Best in Show” award at the Beaufort, SC city-wide art show.

The Colleton Museum is located at 506 E. Washington Street in the heart of downtown Walterboro, SC – known as the “Front Porch of the Lowcountry”. Admission is free. The Museum showcases exhibits representing the history and culture of Colleton County, and is home to thousands of artifacts from Colleton County and South Carolina. These objects are on display in their permanent exhibits offering a “walk through time”:

* Early Walterboro Life & the Settlement of Colleton County

* Rice Production & Plantation Life

* Native American Life

* Religious Life

* Military Role

* The 1900's – featuring a real General Store

* Carew Rice Silhouettes

* Animals of the ACE Basin

* Prehistory & Fossil Exhibit


In addition to these exhibits the Museum offers regularly changing featured art exhibits, special exhibits, and educational programs throughout the year.

Chris Kirk's Lowcountry photography exhibit may be viewed throughout the month of April during the Museum's regular operating hours:

* Tuesday – 12pm-6pm

* Wednesday – Friday – 10am-5pm

* Saturday – 10am-2pm
