Editor's Note: This is a continuation from previously published spring sports season previews. The Moultrie News ran previews about Wando's and Bishop England's teams in the Feb. 20 edition.

Dale Hoover is just making sure his teams are ready this season. That's all a coach can ever do and hope for results to follow.

The Palmetto Christian Academy track and field teams had strong showings in the SCISA 1A/2A state championships last year, and Hoover expects more of the same.

“The PCA boys finished as runners-up in the state championship,” Hoover said, “and I expect we will be more competitive in our quest for the championship this year.”

He added that he hopes the Eagle girls are regarded among the state contenders.

Fresh of a succesful basketball season, Gabe Hogan, Adam Graudin, Cody Brewerton, Joe Siegwald and J.T. Waters all shift their attentions to the track. Hogan was state champion in long jump, high jump and triple jump. Graudin is a two-time 400m champion.

First-year Palmetto Christian student athlete Brewerton will compete in discus and shot put. Siegwald and Waters will both compete in the 100m and 200m races. Siegwald is also assigned to the long jump.

On the girls end, Annie Pascutti returns as a two-time champion in the 400m hurdles. MacKenzie Patrick finished second in the hurdles.

Lane Weinheimer and Abbby Fesler are also key competitors. Weinheimer participates in the 100m and 200m races. Fesler tries her hand in shot put and discus. She grabbed third place in discus last season.

The Eagles have six regular season meets scheduled. Among the most challenging figure to be the meets at Orangeburg Prep, March 5, and at Porter Gaud, March 13.

“It is difficult to set expectations before the season, because you never know what athletes the other teams have until you start the meet schedule,” Hoover said. “I believe we will be in the mix at the state championships in May.”
