So much for the promise ring

  • Sunday, March 3, 2013

A 55-year-old man walked into the police department to report that his ex-girlfriend’s son had called him and left a threatening voice message.

He played the voice message for the officer and it was a warning from the son. He said to quit contacting his mother or he would kick his behind.

The officer asked this 55-year-old man how that made him feel and he said he didn’t really care but he wanted his ring back.

The 55-year-old man explained that he had dated this woman for only a week and gave her a promise ring.

They broke up and he said he never got the ring back.

The officer then explained to him that he would need to go through civil court to get the ring back and that the officers could not force the ex-girlfriend to give the ring back.

The 55-year-old man then went on to show the officers text messages he had sent to his ex-girlfriend in which he pleaded for her to call him.

The officer observed a message from her asking him to quit calling her and harassing her. There were several more messages to her from the 55-year-old, with no response.

The officer had to tell the man not to call or text the ex-girlfriend or to call her son any further. The officer then called the ex and her son and told them the same thing. The report said she was very upset and told the officer that her neighbors saw the man’s car parked in front of her house late the night before. He explained the restraining order process and had police increase patrols of her home.
