Mount Pleasant resident and former Mount Pleasant Town Council member Joe Bustos announced recently that he will run for mayor in the next town election.
The theme of his campaign will be “One Mount Pleasant” with a focus on open government, economic development, quality of life, better attention to senior needs and services and a leadership that allows fellow council members to voice their ideas and opinions openly rather than following the lead of the mayor.
This will be Bustos’ second attempt for mayor of Mount Pleasant again running against Billy Swails who prevailed in the race four years ago in 2009.
The election is Tuesday, Nov. 5, and Bustos has already begun to crank up his campaign.
Bustos said a focus needs to be placed on the ability to maintain the increasing infrastructure of the town such as the roads and drainage.
Those are quality of life issues, he said, that go hand in hand with building new travel arteries.
In other words, he told the Moultrie News, “you can build them but you have to be able to afford to maintain them.”
