Charleston’s Rugged Maniac Obstacle Race not your ordinary 5k

The Rugged Maniac 5k Obstacle Race was held at Boone Hall Plantation, this past Saturday. Participants navigated a challenging terrain that included mud pits, tires, water slides, barbed wire and other obstacles. See more pictures inside on page 13A. At left, runners had to cross a net bridge. Above, before participants could cross the finish line, they had to crawl through a mud pit underneath barbed wire.
More mud greeted participants after sliding down a large water slide. The slide was a favorite among runners.

There were clear skies Saturday in Mount Pleasant, but you wouldn’t know it if you were at Boone Hall.

The Rugged Maniac 5k Obstacle Race made its way to the area and brought hundreds of people wanting a little more out of a race. Participants were drenched in mud navigating terrain that included mud pits, tires, water slides, barbed wire and other obstacles.
