New marketing manager has high hopes for Komen Lowcountry affiliate
Lisa Jones was recently named the Lowcountry Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure’s marketing and events manager. Jones will be responsible for overseeing the organization’s marketing communications department, including event planning for the 20th annual Susan G. Komen Lowcountry Race for the Cure.
Jones worked as the affiliate coordinator for the Komen Lowcountry Affiliate for the past three years. In her previous role, she was the “go to” person for anyone in need of breast health and screening resources and coordinated where they could receive help. She also managed the affiliate’s website, social media presence, finances and office duties. A Komen volunteer originally recommended Jones to the organization and she immediately became inspired by the grassroots network surrounding the affiliate, providing education, screening and treatment programs to those most in need. Before joining the affiliate, Jones gained experience in working and volunteering with other nonprofits with their event planning and fundraising efforts.
“I am a breast cancer survivor of a year,” says Jones. “It never crossed my mind that I would be diagnosed with the same disease as the men and women I help daily. Fortunately, as one of my doctors said, ‘I should be the poster child for early detection.’ I was passionate before about breast cancer, but now it’s a mission – I’ll forever be committed to finding the cure.”
Originally from Raleigh, N.C., Jones moved to Mount Pleasant with her husband and two children in 1993. She is an artist and enjoys college football and reading in her spare time.
Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure started as one local 5K (3.1 miles) race and has grown to be a national series of 110+ races in cities around the globe. The Komen Race for the Cure is one of the nation’s top 5K races and would not be possible without the 75,000-plus volunteers and respective race committees who help put this event together. The local Race is South Carolina’s largest 5K race. To learn more, visit KomenLowcountry.org or call the race hotline at 843-556-3343.
