SC Technical College System recognizes All-State Academic Team

  • Friday, March 15, 2013

The South Carolina Technical College System will recognized 25 students enrolled at colleges across the state who have been named to the Phi Theta Kappa South Carolina All-State Academic Team at a ceremony at the State House Tuesday, March 12.

The students named to the South Carolina All-State Academic Team were selected by the college presidents on the basis of academic performance, leadership accomplishments and service to their colleges and to their local communities. In addition, these students will participate in the annual All-USA Academic Team competition sponsored by the American Association of Community Colleges and Phi Theta Kappa, the Honor Society of the Two-Year College.

The students named to the All-State Academic Team join an elite group. Less than one percent of America’s six million two-year college students have distinguished themselves with this superior level of academic achievement and service to their colleges and communities. “These students have demonstrated outstanding academic achievement and impressive records of service to their colleges and communities,” said Dr. Darrel Staat, president of the S.C. Technical College System. “They are the best and brightest that our state’s technical colleges have to offer, and I congratulate them on their many accomplishments.”

The following students from the local area have been named to the 2013 South Carolina All-State Academic Team:

Trident Technical College: Katerina Barrie, Brent Dorwart, Noel Johnson, Cassandra Romero-Tobia and Jennifer Ross.

The S.C. Technical College System is comprised of 16 technical colleges located strategically across the state and its statewide workforce training programs: readySC and Apprenticeship Carolina. The system is committed to helping increase the employability of all South Carolinians by ensuring they are fully prepared for the careers of today - and tomorrow. As the largest higher education system in the state, the system provides its students with a comprehensive education as well as a fast track to a rewarding career. In addition, the system’s nationally-recognized affiliate programs, designed to train or re-train employees so that companies new to South Carolina and existing businesses alike can continue to prosper and grow, help spur job growth and economic development opportunities across the state. The S.C. Technical College System prepares students of all ages for real work today while demonstrating a commitment to increasing the employability of all South Carolinians and ultimately enhancing the quality of life for all. www.sctechsystem.edu
