The Warrior Ride, a non-profit organization with a mission to rehabilitate injured war heroes, began a Charleston bicycle tour at the Mount Pleasant Waterfront Park, Thursday morning. Nearly 30 veterans from Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom rode to raise community support.
The “Warriors Helping Warriors” schedule began in Mount Pleasant at 8:30 a.m. and continued across the Ravenel Bridge to The Citadel.
A stop was made at the Daniel Library on campus for a special ceremony before proceeding to the Ralph H. Johnson VA Medical Center at 10 a.m.
A break for lunch was givenjust before noon at the center, where the warriors participated in a seminar. Following that was a ride back to Mount Pleasant over the Ravenel Bridge to visit the Patriots Point Naval & Maritime Museum at 3 p.m.
The tour concluded at the VFW Isle of Palms Post, where they ate dinner with fellow veterans. It wrapped up a nearly 12-hour journey in Charleston.
The next day, the cyclists – some using adaptive bikes – rode from the Holiday Inn Express in Moncks Corner to Santee Cooper State Park.
