Junior Dylan Thorp is surprised to hear her name called as Miss. Wando 2013. Miss Wando 2012, Maddy Chitty crowned Thorp.
Eighteen competitors, but only one Miss Wando. On March 9, the annual Miss Wando Pageant took place in the Wando Performing Arts Center. Junior Dylan Thorp was crowned the 2013 Miss Wando.
Other award winners included Miss Senior Georgia Compton and Miss Junior Anna Stockman. Also crowned were Miss Sophomore Rebecca Brantley and Miss Freshman Brittany McDonald. Each of the 18 contestants presented an opening statement, performed a talent and ended with the question portion of the show.
Thorp also also received the award for Most Articulate. She performed a self-choreographed gymnastics routine and spoke of her dreams of becoming a neurosurgeon.
Thorp is the founder of Wando’s Healthy Lifestyles Club and enjoys keeping up a healthy lifestyle. “It was amazing,” Thorp said. “They turned the lights on when the confetti came down and they announced my name, and I saw all my family that was there and my friends had made a sign for me. It was an incredible moment.”
