All-Star Bowl partners with Meals on Wheels

  • Thursday, March 21, 2013

The inaugural South Carolina College All-Star Bowl will be played on Saturday, March 23, at North Greenville University, and Meals on Wheels organizations from across the state of South Carolina will benefit. The gridiron showdown will feature football players preparing to enter the NFL draft who played high school or college football in South Carolina.

The game will establish annual bragging rights in the state, featuring an Upstate vs. Lowcountry matchup. It’s also a final chance for players to showcase their talents to media and scouts before the draft in April. Kickoff is set for 3 p.m., and the game will be televised in South Carolina, North Carolina and Georgia on My40 and its affiliates, including WTAT Fox 24 locally.

The Lowcountry team will be coached by College Hall of Fame member Willie Jeffries and mentored by Heisman Trophy winner George Rogers. Every college and university south of I-20 will be represented by at least one player.

General admission tickets are $15 (use discount code GA for $3 off) while VIP tickets are $150 (use discount code VIP2013 for $50 off). VIP tickets include an in-game tailgating experience and the opportunity to watch the game right from the sidelines, as well as an after party featuring entertainment by the Blue Dogs. Tickets can be purchased online at www.sccollegeallstarbowl.com or at the gate.

Locally, The Kickin’ Chicken restaurant in Mount Pleasant will host a free Watch Party to benefit Meals on Wheels. Guests are invited to help cheer on the Lowcountry team, and 10 percent of all receipts turned in during the game will be donated in support of the organization’s meal delivery programs.

This event is one of many activities supporting March for Meals, a nationwide campaign to bring attention to senior hunger. East Cooper Meals on Wheels delivers meals to an average of 285 homebound residents a day at no charge. The organization relies heavily on donations from the community and volunteers to sustain its programs. You can learn more at www.ecmow.org.
