Each week, the Moultrie News and Mount Pleasant Recreation Department will feature one local lacrosse athlete. Josh Verhanovitz, 11, plays goalie for the Red Rockets of Heather Bosse State Farm.
Question: Who is your favorite lacrosse player or what is your favorite team?
Answer: My two favorite players are Casey Powell and Thomas Harris. Coach Tom very cool, supportive, and a great friend. My favorite team is the Duke Blue Devils.
Q: If you could visit any city or country, where would you go?
A: There are lots of places that I would like to visit, but Hawaii is at the top of my list. Hawaii has awesome beaches and active volcanos.
Q: What is the best moment in your athletic career?
A: When I was selected to play for the Loggerheads travel lacrosse team.
Q: What is your favorite Mount Pleasant restaurant?
A: That depends on the time of year. In the summer, I like to go to Red’s and sit outside. In the winter, I like to go to Carrabba’s.
Q: If you could be anyone for a day, who would you be?
A: That’s a hard question – I’d have to say Tom Brady. He’s married to a super model and has an awesome house in California.
Q: What is the best advice you have gotten from a coach?
A: Peter Lawrence, the coach at the University of Hartford men’s lacrosse, said to always set goals for yourself. If you have B’s work hard to make A’s, if you are struggling with something in lacrosse, work hard to improve it. Always improve yourself.
Q: What do you look forward to the most about being an adult?
A: Being able to drive. I love cars, my favorite at the moment is the 2013 Agera R Koenigsegg. It has a top speed of 273 mph.
Q: What do you think is the most difficult and most fun position to play in lacrosse?
A: I’d say the most difficult would be midfield. Those guys have to run a lot and have to be both attack and defense. The most fun is goalie, because you have balls coming at you from all directions; it keeps you on your toes. It’s pretty funny when you block a ball off of your helmet or shin.
Q: What is your favorite movie and television show?
A: My favorite movie is “Battle of Los Angeles.” It has action and sci-fi. My favorite TV show is “Dirty Jobs.” That guy is crazy. I don’t think I could do some of the things that guy gets into.
Q: If you could have dinner with any three people, who would you choose?
A: My cousins, Tyler and Titus. I don’t get to see them much, but when we get together, we are wild and have so much fun.
