There's winning, and then there's what the Bishop England softball team did in a five-day span last week.
The Battling Bishops defeated region opponents Burke, Garrett and Woodland by a combined score of 66-0.
At 10-2, Wando is enjoying a bright season. It got more special this past Wednesday night when Dancia Newton pitched a no-hitter and recorded her 402nd career strikeout, placing her atop the school's record books for strikeouts.
It was enough to defeat West Ashley 7-0. Wando edged Stratford, 4-3, two days later. Monday night, the Warriors beat Goose Creek 1-0, to improve to 3-0 in region action. They travel to Cane Bay, Wednesday.
The Bishop England boys lacrosse team rebounded from a loss last week against Wando to defeat Socastee, 8-7, Monday night. Simon Johnson had three goals, and Connor Canning added a goal and three assists. Jennings Kleeman had 10 saves.
The Battling Bishops (6-4) host Bluffton, Wednesday night, in their regular season finale.
The Bishop England girls lacrose team grabbed second place at the Cavalier Patriot Classic tournament in Greenville this past weekend. The Bishops defeated Riverside and Peachtree Ridge (Ga.) before falling to J.L. Mann. Goalie Taylor Rice tallied 25 saves in those three contestes.
Monday night, Bishop England lost to Wando, 12-10 , for the second time in a week. Jordan Mitchell led the team with four goals. The Bishops conclude their regular season with a Wednesday home match against West Ashley.
The Wando boys lacrosse team remained perfect this regular season with a 20-4 rout of J.L. Mann this past Saturday. The Warriors (11-0) received three goals apiece from Andrew Phelan, Chase Robinson and Hamilton Brower.
Prior to that contest, Wando beat Bishop England 12-7 on Wednesday. The Warriors (11-0) host Greenville, Friday night, to conclude their regular season.
The Wando girl lacrosse team edged Bishop England this past Wednesday night, 14-12, and Monday night, 12-10, to improve to 9-1 this season. Allie Bucknam notched five goals and an assist.
The Warriors play Bluffton, Wednesday.
The Palmetto Christian Academy boys soccer team collected its win in program history this past Thursday night with a 3-0 decision over host First Baptist.
Tristan Lonneman scored all three goals, and Aaron Holley provided the shutout in goal.
The Eagles girls soccer team is still searching for its first win after a loss to First Baptist last week. Both soccer programs are new this season as varsity sports.
The Wando boys soccer team beat Summerville and Hoover (Alabama) last week, 5-1 and 4-1, respectively. The Warriors are 6-0 so far this season with a game against region foe West Ashley Tuesday, that was completed after the Moultrie News went to press.
Erik Clark had four assists against Summerville to tie the single game assist mark in the nation.
The Wando girls soccer team remains at 3-1 this season after a three-week break in scheduling. The Warriors played at West Ashley Tuesday night after press time.
The Bishop England boys soccer team defeated Hoover, 2-0, this past Saturday to become 8-1-1 this year. The Bishops beat Burke 8-0 earlier that week. They host Clover, April 4.
The Bishop England girls soccer team lost to Augusta Prep, 5-1, this past Friday night to slip to 8-3 this season. The loss followed a 1-0 win earlier that day against Beaufort.
Earlier that week, the Bishops defeated region opponents Garrett and Burke each by 11-0 scores. Bishop England next returns to action April 9 at Woodland.
The Academic Magnet boys soccer team lost its first game of the season on Saturday, 2-1, to Northwestern. It capped a stretch of three games in three days. The Raptors crushed Burke 18-0 on Thursday, edged Indian Lake 2-1 on Friday before dropping the game against Northwestern.
Academic Magnet travels to Pinewood Prep, Wednesday, trying to improve its 6-1 record.
The Academic Magnet girls soccer team took out 4A opponent West Ashley, this past Friday to move to 11-1 this season. The Raptors are 5-0 in region play with a game against Pinewood Prep, Wednesday.
They have held opponents scoreless in their past six contests and have outscored them 48-0.
The Wando baseball team have four won games in a row to improve to 6-5 overall this season. Statistics from its game at Goose Creek, Monday night, were not available when the Moultrie News went to press.
The Warriors started the season 2-5, allowing an average of six runs per game. During their recent hot streak, that average has been reduced to two. Wando hosts Cane Bay, Wednesday night.
The Bishop England baseball team has relied on consistent offense and solid pitching to boast a 7-1 record this season. At press time, statistics from the Bishops' region game at Battery Creek were unavailable.
In their only loss this season – earlier this month to James Island – they scored two runs. In all other contests, Bishop England has plated at least four runners while surrendering four or less runs all but once.
The Hanahan Invitational Tournament begins Monday.
