Belk unveils plan for flagship store at Towne Centre

  • Wednesday, March 27, 2013

Belk announced plans to transform its fashion department store at Mount Pleasant Towne Centre into one of the company’s flagship locations. The $10.2 million project will include an expanded assortment of the most desirable premium brands, enhanced customer amenities including redesigned fitting rooms, restrooms and seating areas, the addition of a new men’s store building, and expansion and remodeling of the existing space to create a one of kind shopping destination in the Charleston area.

The current store is 82,000 square feet in size and, after a two phase expansion, will grow to 140,000 square feet. The first expansion phase will be the conversion of the former Earthfare store located adjacent to the existing store into a separate Belk Men’s store which will open in November 2013. The second phase involves remodeling and expanding the existing building by 30,000 square feet and building a parking deck to accommodate the additional store traffic. The second phase is scheduled to be completed by October 2014.

The new flagship will feature a number of exciting new brand and expanded brand presentations representing Belk’s “Modern.Southern.Style.” The shoe department will double in size, and will feature new brands such as Isaac Mizrahi and Via Spiga, with expanded assortments from Frye, Ugg, Sam Edelman and Donald Pliner. The cosmetics area will reflect an “open sell” environment with new premium brands, including Jo Malone, La Mer, Laura Mercier, Channel, MAC and Bobbi Brown. Women’s apparel will also grow significantly with larger assortments from Lily, Eileen Fisher, Ralph Lauren and Michael Kors.
