Officials at the local Post Office do more than sort and deliver mail. They also keep an eye for their customers.

Recently, a postal worker came across a package that had a large sum of cash in it and he intercepted it. The package was being sent by a local resident who has been the victim of several cash scams.

He has counseled this resident in the past about sending money through the mail to unknown people, but this time he called police in to help.

According to the police report that postal employee explained that an elder victim’s advocate needed to be called in to further counsel the couple who are almost 90 years old.

On this particular occasion the woman tried to send $5000 in enveloped taped inside a magazine.

Police responded to the couple’s home and they said they were sending the money to a distant cousin who worked for a judge who needed to pay taxes on a $5 million settlement he received.

The couple was counseled and they both said they understood and would no longer send money through the mail. The female said she would change her phone number because she was getting also from Jamaica everyday from people she did not know.

Family members were contacted and a victim’s advocate was assigned to help the couple further.
