Austin Ando, 13, of Hobcaw Yacht Club and Prime Sailing Team competed in the USODA Florida State Championship in Jensen Beach, Fla., March 9-10. He finished in 10th place in red fleet and 15th overall out of 194 optimists in this national regatta. Austin started sailing at 8 years old at Hobcaw Yacht Club summer sailing camp and is a first-generation sailor. He joined the Prime Sailing Team in October 2011 and the advanced coaching he receives has pushed his sailing career into high gear. Austin also qualified for the U.S. National Team Trials to be held in Pewaukee, Wisc., in May and will be competing against the best youth optimist sailors in the nation for a spot on the U.S. National Team.
