It wouldn’t be spring at The Citadel without the annual concert by The Citadel Regimental Band and Pipes.

This year’s concert will be at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, April 18 in McAlister Field House. The concert will be under the direction of retired Navy Cmdr. Mike Alverson and Pipe Director Jim Dillahey.

The cadets of the Regimental Band and Pipes will present selections of varied musical styles-from Broadway to the traditional sounds of Scotland. The band, one of the most recognized cadet organizations at The Citadel, was one of the featured performers at the 2010 Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo, a nightly show held each summer in Edinburgh, Scotland, and featuring military musicians and performing groups from around the world. This summer the Regimental Band and Pipes will perform at the Royal Nova Scotia International Tattoo in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

As one of the 20 companies comprising the South Carolina Corps of Cadets, the Regimental Band and Pipes leads the way and sets the tempo that all other cadets follow. The Regimental Band is made up of about 70 cadet musicians. An important segment of cadet life at The Citadel, the Regimental Band contributes to the morale of the Corps and helps to maintain the martial atmosphere of the campus.

The spring concert is free and open to the public.
