Cindy Howell’s second graders at Laurel Hill Primary have been studying biographies. The unit culminated with biography book day where students shared either a poster, diorama, giant paper doll or dressed up as the famous person they studied. The culminating activity was a reading workshop game entitled, “Biographies Rock.” The students each displayed their biography on their desk and began reading their own until the music began. Then the students danced around the room until the music stopped. They then began reading a classmate’s biography. This pattern continued until each student was able to read at least four of their fellow classmate’s biographies. What a fun way to learn about famous people.
Laurel Hill Primary School students (from left) Wes Baldwin as Theodore Roosevelt; Cooper Hoge as Abraham Lincoln; Gabriella Sammarro as Vanessa Hudgens; Brady Setser as Alex Rodriguez, found out that learning about famous people is fun.
