Three nationally known wieners met in a Mount Pleasant parking lot, April 7, for a friendly face off.

The 27-foot Oscar Mayer Wienermobile made one of its nationwide tour stops at the Bi-Lo grocery store near Town Center. The fiberglass hot dog is used by Kraft Foods to promote its Oscar Mayer brand.

A 4-foot-long mini-wiener and a custom pedal car called the “Kielbasavan” surrounded the Wienermobile. The two smaller vehicles were featured last year in a 30-second television commercial promoting the popular novel, “Book of Nathan” by Ocean View Press.

In the book, a modified Wienermobile creates havoc for one of America's largest corporations – a scene which prompted the television ad.

Mount Pleasant's Matthew Tucker, 8, and his 5-year-old sister, Norah, starred in the cute commercial teasing the “Book of Nathan,” which is available on YouTube. To see the ad, visit www.bookofnathan.net.

The commercial diverted attention from Kraft's mustard and ketchup-colored, 11-foot high touring hot dog. Until the friendly confrontation in Mount Pleasant, it was unclear if the promotional fracas had reached a boiling point.

The Wienermobile visited the area on the heels of the 36th annual Cooper River Bridge Run, which was held April 6.

During the April 4-7 trip to East Cooper, the Wienermobile stopped at local Bi-Lo supermarket stores, the Kids Bridge Run and the official Bridge Run. Fans were treated to family activities and free wiener whistles.

“I had a frank discussion with Norah and Matthew,” Lisa Rosenblum, a recent University of Wisconsin graduate who Kraft selected to drive one of its six Wienermobiles, joked in a provided news release.

“After I gave them a couple of wiener whistles, we agreed it made more sense to relish our similarities than worry about whose bun was bigger.”
