Ever wish you could peek inside some of those beautiful homes and lovely gardens in the Old Village of Mount Pleasant?

You can during the Old Village Home, Garden and Art Tour this Sunday, April 21 from 1 to 5 p.m. All proceeds from the event will support local Red Cross programs and services.

“The Old Village Tour has many interesting aspects and one is the diversity of the homes that are on tour,” said Ann Edwards, co-founder of the Old Village Tour, said in a news release. “Not only do people get to experience the beautiful homes on the tour, they get to support a great cause and give back to their community.”

The tour is self-paced with volunteer guides in homes and gardens. Local chefs will provide food tastings in tour home kitchens and on patios. Area artists will have exhibits in Edwards Park on Pitt Street and The Charleston Academy of Music will perform in the park at the beginning of the tour. Garden expert Susan Reed-Campbell of Abide-A-While will also be on hand to answer everyone’s garden questions.

Ticket purchase will also include complimentary refreshments at the Old Post House beginning at 3 p.m.

One of the homes on tour will be 621 Pitt St. which belongs to the Hawthorne family who lost another home to a 2007 fire in Wisconsin. The family says their Old Village home is on the local tour because they appreciate the assistance the Red Cross gave to the firefighters in Wisconsin.

Mac Jenkinson, an Old Village resident and American Red Cross volunteer, organizes the golf cart rides which tour participants can take to get from house to house as a big hit.

“We have drivers who live in the Old Village and know the stories about its houses and people,” he said. “The stories we share make the visitors enjoy the tour and laugh a little.”

Tickets are available at Abide-A-While Garden Center, Gwynn’s of Mount Pleasant, Hyams Garden Center and The Scratch Pad. Single tickets are $45 and tickets for groups of 10 or more are $35 each.
