The Palmetto Christian Academy girls soccer team won its first game as a SCISA-sanctioned team this past week. The Palmetto Christian Academy girls soccer team found the back of the net for the first time as a SCISA-sanctioned program this past Thursday against Stall – a 3A SCHSL team.
Caroline Rathman and Karris Ripple broke out the scoring in a big way, notching three goals – two by Rathman, one by Ripple – to help the Eagles win 3-2. Palmetto Christian led 3-0 at halftime and held on for the win.
The Eagles (1-8) travel to Porter Gaud, Monday night to try to extend the winning streak.
The Wando boys soccer team, the No. 1 ranked team in the state and country, remains undefeated this season at 15-0. The Warriors played region foe Stratford Tuesday night after the Moultrie News went to press.
Looking ahead, Wando has key games against Academic Magnet – Wednesday night on the road, and May 2 at home.
The Wando girls soccer team began a six-game road stand this past Tuesday – after press time – as the regular season nears its finale. The Warriors played Stratford Tuesday and will play Academic Magnet Wednesday, Charlotte Catholic Friday, Clover Saturday and Cane Bay Monday.
They won't get much rest, though, as Wando (8-1) hosts Cane Bay the following night.
The Academic Magnet boys soccer team, the top team in the 2A state ranks, has only one blemish on its record at 11-1, and the Raptors hope to keep it that way. But, they'll have to knock off top-ranked 4A Wando on Wednesday to continue its winning ways.
Academic Magnet defeated Bishop England, 3-2, this past Thursday to improve to 6-0 in region play. All four remaining games in the regular season are against teams with records above .500 – Wando (twice), Beaufort and Fort Dorchester.
The Academic Magnet (17-1, 7-0) girls soccer team, voted as the No. 1 2A program in the state, face Wando Wednesday night in a battle of one-loss teams.
Of their remaining four games in the regular season, the Raptors have three contests against 4A schools.
The Bishop England boys soccer team rebounded from a three-game losing streak to defeat Christ Church, 4-2, this past Saturday. The Battling Bishops (12-6-1, 4-1-0) are enduring a stretch of playing premier competition in the state, including Wando, Academic Magnet, Pinewood Prep and Porter Gaud.
Bishop England travels to Porter Gaud, Thursday, and then finishes its regular season campaign at Fort Dorchester the following night.
The Bishop England (9-5, 5-1) girls soccer team nearly knocked off the top 1A program in the state this past Saturday, losing to Christ Church 2-1. The Bishops entertained West Ashley Tuesday night after press time. They also host Cane Bay Wednesday night.
The Bishop England baseball team grabbed the top spot in the 2A state coaches association poll.
The Battling Bishops concluded their regular season with a 16-4 overall record and 5-1 mark in region play. They'll try for their sixth state championship since 2003.
Bishop England hosts Bamberg-Ehrhardt, Thursday at 6 p.m. in the first round of the state playoffs.
The Wando baseball team dropped its final two games of the regular season to enter the postseason at 11-12 overall. Most recently, the Warriors lost to rival Bishop England, 17-10, this past Thursday.
Wando travels to Beaufort, Thursday at 7:00 p.m. in the first round of the 4A state playoffs.
The Wando softball team enters the state postseason as a team to be feared. At 22-3, the Warriors finished the regular season on a 10-game winning streak, which included six shutouts.
At press time, SCHSL brackets had not been released.
The Bishop England softball team's results during its final two games against Academic Magnet and Woodland this past week were not available at press time. In a previous game this season, the Bishops defeated Woodland 25-0. They had also beaten Academic Magnet 9-6. SCHSL pairings were not available.
