Cario students compete in drama festival

Cario Middle School Advanced Drama students competed in the 2013 South Carolina Speech and Theatre Association (SCSTA) Middle School Festival and Competition held in Spartanburg on April 13. Pinewood Prep and Marrington Middle School of the Arts were the other two local schools that participated in this statewide annual SCSTA event, which included more than 240 South Carolina middle school drama students.

Cario eighth grader, Nick Fisher won first place in Original Comedic Monologue; Cario seventh graders, Victoria Nathanson, Ann Webb, Chandler Hawkins and Nick Bennis won second place in Readers Theatre; Cario seventh grader, Ann Webb won second place in Solo Comedic Acting; and Cario seventh graders, Addy Lacy and Laney Hill won third place in Duet Acting. All of these SCSTA medalists performed in Cario’s recent production of “Annie, JR.” at the Wando PAC, including leading roles for Victoria Nathanson (Annie); Nick Fisher (Oliver Warbucks); Ann Webb (Grace Farrell); Addy Lacy (Miss Hannigan); and Laney Hill (Lily St. Regis).

Twenty-two Cario Advanced Drama students, from sixth, seventh and eighth grade, were selected for the 2013 Cario SCSTA Drama team, including Kate Wander, Rasy Groesbeck, Chandler Hawkins, Jada Cameron, Lauren Pilling, MaryLogan Hayes, Kirsten Morrell, Amanda Whalen(8), Jonas Millican (6 alt), Jenna Hopkins(8), Mara Pfeil, Victoria Nathanson, Addy Lacy, Laney Hill, Nick Bennis, Ann Webb, David Emory, Sophie Cuff, Kellie Martin, Nick Fisher, Lindsey Crothers, Alyssa Stone, and Joni McLeod, Cario drama teacher.

Auditions for the 2013-2014 Cario Advanced Drama for Cario rising sixth, seventh and eighth graders will be held on May 14 and May 15. Please check the Cario drama website for more details. http://teacherweb.com/SC/CarioMiddleSchool/McLeod
