Laurel Hill Primary School PTA recently announced that Daniel Jacobs is the winner of the 2013 Turtle Trot Design Competition.

Jacobs’ winning design beat out 70 other submissions. It was revealed at Laurel Hill’s second grade performance on April 16, and he was presented with the award and a cash prize.

The Turtle Trot is a PTA sponsored one-mile fun run/walk and wellness fair. Now in its seventh year, this event serves as a fun and healthy opportunity for the entire community to run or walk with family and friends, as well as visit the sponsors and vendors who have post-race exhibits at the Wellness Fair immediately following the race. The funds raised during the event are used to provide outdoor play equipment and supplies, as well as needed school items such as leveled readers and classroom supplies.

Approximately 1,000 participants are anticipated to attend this year’s event, which will be held on Saturday, May 18 at Laurel Hill Primary School. Students and families from Laurel Hill and Pinckney Elementary participate. The one-mile fun run/walk begins at 9 a.m. and is followed by a wellness fair. Registration is $12.

Jacobs is a sixth grader at Cario Middle School in the “Year long Advanced Art program” in Stefani Timmerman’s class. He earned honorable mention in the 2013 SC Junior Duck Stamp Contest. Jacobs loves outdoor activities like camping, spending time at the beach and playing video games with his friends
