Board hosts information sessions for prospective teachers

  • Friday, May 10, 2013

The American Board for Certification of Teacher Excellence (The American Board) is dedicated to building strong communities by recruiting qualified professionals to teach in South Carolina. The American Board was accepted by the South Carolina Department of Education in 2007 to certify career-changers, returning military and other community members with valuable experience to bring to local classrooms.

Since its founding, The American Board has issued thousands of teaching certificates to help fill classrooms with qualified professionals who are dedicated to student achievement.

With a base requirement of a Bachelor’s degree, The American Board opens the teaching profession to a wider range of candidates than traditional programs. The American Board program is self-paced, takes place online and must be completed within a year. A local representative will be hosting free information sessions on South Carolina teacher certification in May and June. Pre-registration is available at www.abcte.org/drupal/teach/events. The event contact is Teacher Certification Specialist, Jennifer Rone, who may be reached at jrone@americanboard.org, or 803-216-5676.

Additionally, school districts with an identified need for highly-qualified teachers can reach out to 877-669-2228 to discuss partnership opportunities with The American Board.
