The Charleston Youth Ballet is a regional pre-professional ballet company preserving and promoting the art of ballet and empowering young artist in the Charleston area by providing meaningful performance opportunities that bring joy to Charleston and its surrounding communities. The Charleston Youth Ballet is proudly producing this season’s professional-quality performance of All in a Rhyme based upon the enchanting nursery rhymes of Mother Goose.
In this original tale a young girl named Mary, played by Grace Rauton, sneaks away from her friends who are off to their daily studies with the governess. She has no interest in her reading lessons and decides to take a nap instead. Just as she drifts into sleep the beloved Mother Goose, played by Grace Engle, appears to teach her about the joys of reading. Mother Goose, with her magical staff, brings to life the many characters from Mary’s book of rhymes including favorites like Little Miss Muffet and the mischievous Spider, Twinkle Little Star, and the Three Blind Mice. While enchantingly taking Mary through the pages of her book, she shows her that the true magic of bringing these characters to life lies in her imagination. The ballet highlights the talents of many of Charleston’s elite ballet students all of whom were hand-picked through a county wide audition for a place in this year’s company. This fine group is under the direction of Charleston Dance Institute co-founder Jonathan Tabbert, well known in the Charleston area as a principal dancer as well as for his work as a dance educator and choreographer. This performance is a culmination of many months of work including a rigorous rehearsal process on top of the 18-plus hours of technique classes a week that these dedicated dancers receive. The Charleston Youth Ballet has had the honor of working with many wonderful organizations this year including Courageous Kidz, the Charleston County School of the Arts, and the Medical University of South Carolina Child Life Atrium. The ballet is pleased to offer as a finale of this season the world premiere of “All in a Rhyme.” It will be presented at the Rose Maree Myers Theatre of Performing Arts, Charleston County School of the Arts on June 8 at 7 p.m.
Tickets are $15 (Adult), $10 (Child) General Admission, available at the door or by contacting the Charleston Dance Institute at 843-284-8151.
