The Charleston Academy of Music (CAM) is accepting registrations for summer camp, Charleston Summer Music, from Monday, June 17 to Saturday, June 22. Students enrolled in the summer camp, which is held at the College of Charleston, will be coached by faculty of CAM who are also faculty at the College of Charleston and musicians of the Charleston Symphony Orchestra.
Charleston Summer Music is a program designed to bring together young musicians and offer them exceptional learning, performing, and interacting opportunities in an inspiring, multi-cultural, challenging and fun environment. Students will benefit from private instruction, chamber music, and masterclasses by world-renowned musicians and educators in piano, strings, and guitar. During the camp, students will be involved in daily practice, string and chamber music ensembles, and concerts. Exceptional performers will be offered solo recitals and scholarships for the following year.
The faculty include pianists Irina Pevzner, Chee-Hang See, Amy Tan and Eunjoo Yun, Ulyana Machneva teaching guitar, Terry Muir teaching cello, and Yuriy Bekker and Tomas Jakubek on the violin. The program is available to students 8 years old and above with at least two years of private instruction in piano, violin/viola, cello, or guitar. Exceptions are sometimes made for younger and less experienced students. The fees are $650 for a full day camp (from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day) or $300 for a half day (9 a.m. - noon), with a non-refundable application fee of $35 for non-CAM students.
