DECA team visits California for conference

The Wando High School DECA Chapter, which is an association of Business Students, competed in the International Career and Development Conference in Anaheim, Calif., April 23-28.

Twenty-six Wando business students joined more than 13,000 students from nine countries to compete in business role play, written business plans, team scenarios as well as leadership and management institutes.

Kirk Beilke, Wando DECA Advisor is proud “to have a diverse and dynamic DECA chapter that utilize what is learned in the classroom and compete in real world business situations.”

This year Wando was honored with a gold certification for The Warrior Shop, Wando’s own student run student store. The gold certification is a rigorous series of qualifications which was awarded to only 75 student-based enterprises nationwide. Seniors John Li and Haley Sabados and sophomore Elizabeth Clayton represented the Warrior Shop in promotional competition in Anaheim.

Additionally, Beilke and co-advisor Sharon Ansley are proud to announce that senior Brenna Lauer won an international award for accounting. “Brenna has worked especially hard to attain success at Wando in volleyball and academics. She has proven over and over that hard work reaps dividends” states Beilke. Now she can add an international business award to her list of accomplishments.
